Au Pair Extraordinaire (in association with Bella Vida Centre) is a Johannesburg-based au pair, tutor and babysitter placement agency with offices situated in Bryanston, Sandton. OUR TEAM:
Saskia Fick is the front line person at Au Pair Extraordinaire. She has 4 years of experience in a pressurised and highly demanding recruitment environment. She has a degree in Psychology and 5 years of experience working with children, so she understands first hand what parents require in an exceptional au pair.
Justine Loewenthal is a Neurotherapist at Bella Vida Centre, where she assists children and adults with various physical and psychological disorders. She thrives on playing a role in the healing and growth of every client.
Ilze Van der Merwe-Alberts is an Educational Psychologist and CEO of Bella Vida Group, specialising in working with children, adults and families. She has a vision and passion to inspire people of all ages to have powerful, masterful and beautiful lives.
INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES:
Only high-calibre, dedicated, motivated, experienced and reliable candidates will be suggested to families. All candidates attend a personal interview with us, are comprehensively screened, criminal checks and reference checks are performed. Only those who meet our rigid criteria will be put forward to families. Parents can have peace of mind that their children are in the most capable of hands. Once an au pair has been placed with a family, it is compulsory for the au pair to attend the ‘Powerful Parent, Powerful Child’(link to PPPC) workshop, presented by child expert and Educational Psychologist, Ilze van Der Merwe-Alberts, where they are empowered with the skills necessary to ensure nurturance, understanding and intellectual stimulation of every child.

In addition to the knowledge gained from this workshop, parents may also choose one other workshop or talk presented by Ilze van Merwe-Alberts for their au pair to attend. For more information on the current workshops available, please click here.
The monetary value of the workshops is at least R2300-00, but you receive the benefit of these free of charge by sourcing and appointing an au pair through Au Pair Extraordinaire.
Families must register with Au Pair Extraordinaire by completing our Questionnaire and Terms and Conditions. There is an initial non-refundable registration fee of R200 with will be deducted from the placement fee should you wish to employ an au pair through us. We will then set up interviews for you with potential candidates until you have decided on someone suitable who you feel meets your requirements and will fit into your family. An Agency fee is payable in accordance with our Schedule of Fees.
Exact duties of au pairs differ in each household, but, generally speaking, include:
- nurturance, care and supervision of your children
- fetching from school and taking to extra-murals, appointments etc.
- supervision of and assistance with homework
- playing fun and stimulating activities
INFORMATION FOR AU PAIRS:
If you would like to become an au pair through Au Pair Extraordinaire, you must be over 20 years old and have:
- maturity and responsibility
- ability to nurture
- valid driver’s licence and own roadworthy car with seatbelts in the back
- previous childcare experience (e.g. previous experience as an au pair or teacher)
- contactable references
- no criminal record (criminal checks are done and the results are forwarded to you for future reference)
- minimum education of Grade 12
- passion for children, patience and a sense of humour!

- your cv
- copies of your driver’s licence and ID
- copies of certificates of childcare courses you have attended
- 1 passport-size photograph
- Completed Questionnaire and signed terms and conditions
- R60 as payment for the criminal check which we outsource
- R125 as payment for the outsourced driving assessment
Once you have been employed by a family, you will be required to attend the ‘Powerful Parent, Powerful Child’ workshop, presented by child expert and Educational Psychologist, Ilze van Der Merwe-Alberts, where you will be empowered with the skills necessary to ensure nurturance, understanding and intellectual stimulation of every child. The monetary value of this workshop is R1800-00, but you receive the benefit free of charge by being placed as an au pair through Au Pair Extraordinaire.
OUR GUARANTEE:
A 2 month probationary period is granted, beginning the day the au pair begins working for the family. If, during these 2 months, the family feels that the au pair is not suitable or the au pair decides to leave, we will begin a search for another au pair. This guarantee will be honoured if our terms and conditions have not been breached and if the full placement fee was paid to us before the candidate’s first day of work. This guarantee is not extended with the start of employment of subsequent au pairs after the original placement.
