Au Pair Extraordinaire is an au pair and babysitter placement agency and prides itself on complementary matching of families and au pairs, excellent after-placement service and comprehensive screening of all Applicants to ensure peace of mind of the parents and nurturance and stimulation of the children. All au pairs attend a workshop where they are taught the necessary skills to be empowered to best care for your children. Before an Applicant is put forward for an au pair position with a family, Applicants attend a personal interview and all previous childcare and character references are confirmed. Only mature, dedicated and responsible Applicants with a proven passion for children will be suggested to families. Our guarantee The Agency offers a two-month probationary period beginning the day the Au Pair commences work with the Client. The guarantee is valid only if the full placement fee has been paid to the Agency. In case of early termination (by either party) the Agency will offer an alternative Au Pair free of charge within the two-month probationary period. In the unlikely event of the Agency being unable to fill the vacancy, a refund will be made. The Agency must be informed immediately and contacted in writing within 10 days from termination of the contract in order for the replacement guarantee to be honoured. If the termination proves to be a result of misconduct on the part of the family, e.g. late payment etc. no refund is payable to the Client nor is a replacement offered. This replacement guarantee is not extended with the start of employment of subsequent au pairs after the original placement. Our fees Before the start of recruitment, a once-off registration fee of R 114-00 must be paid to the Agency. In the case of permanent placements (with a definite starting date but no ending date), Agency fees will be calculated at 12% of gross income (comprising monthly salary and any other allowances, such as travel allowances, cellphone allowance, babysitting etc.). If the Applicant lives / will be living with the Client, an amount of R 1200-00 will be added to the gross income for purposes of invoicing. In the case of placements lasting between one day and three months (with definite starting and ending dates), Agency fees will be calculated at 25% of gross income. In the case of placements lasting between three months and six months (with definite starting and ending dates), Agency fees will be calculated at 20% of gross income. In the case of placements lasting between six months and twelve months (with definite starting and ending dates), Agency fees will be calculated at 15% of gross income.

Terms and Conditions for Au Pairs
To find an au pair Families must register with Au Pair Extraordinaire by completing the Family questionnaire available on this website. Our Terms and Conditions and Schedule of Fees are also available for your perusal. When this questionnaire is submitted, a once-off registration fee of R 114-00 is payable before the search for an appropriate Applicant can begin. This fee includes a personal meeting (or telephonic if your time is pressurised) to discuss your needs in detail, forwarding to you of CVs of possible Applicants and setting up of interviews between you and Applicant(s). Once a suitable Applicant has been chosen by you, a placement fee is payable to the agency in accordance with the Schedule of Fees found in the Terms and Conditions.

Terms and Conditions for Families
Duties of au pairs Exact duties of au pairs differ in each household. Generally speaking, au pairs are responsible for:
- nurturance, care and supervision of your children
- collecting your children from school
- transporting your children to and from extramural activities, doctor's appointments etc.
- supervision of and assistance with homework
- play fun and stimulating activities with your children
Remuneration An au pair's salary / hourly rate will depend largely on their previous childcare experience and childcare qualifications completed, as well as the number of hours worked per week. An au pair earns between R 35.00 and R 55.00 per hour. Compensation of R 2.00 per km travelled for childcare purposes must be added to the salary. Other allowances, such as a cellphone allowance, can be considered. The salary can either be paid at the end of each week or monthly. In the case of making use of the agency's babysitter placement option, payment must be made directly to Au Pair Extraordinaire for the full amount. This service is charged at R 70.00 per hour up to midnight and R 80.00 per hour thereafter.
